Local students’ excellence rewarded by Cork ETB
Local students were among those honoured for displaying academic excellence in their Leaving Certificate and Leaving Certificate Applied Examinations, as well as Student of the Year for 2021.
Colin Shealy, John Flynn and Sam Dunning of Coláiste an Charoibhín and Louise Hennessy of Glanmire Community College were among 290 Cork ETB students recently honoured. Taoiseach Micheál Martin extended glowing tributes to the students.
Colin, John, Sam, and Louise were also among 34 students to achieve a staggering 625 points in last summer’s Leaving Certificate exams. Each of these students received the prestigious Board Medal for their exemplary efforts.
Cork ETB Chief Executive, Denis Leamy congratulated all students present on their successes and the hard work that led to such high achievements, despite a very different approach to the norm for the traditional Leaving Certificate examination process
“The results that you have achieved in the Leaving Certificate and Leaving Certificate Applied Examinations are among the very best in the country.
“Although you may be disappointed at not having a formal graduation, your class of 2021 is likely to be remembered as one of the most famous classes in school history. You will have a unique story to tell throughout your life about the circumstances of your final year,” Mr Leamy said.
Taoiseach Micheál Martin recorded a special video message for the students of 2021 where he praised their determination and dedication to succeed and excel in spite of an uncertain academic year and wished them well in their future endeavours.
