Team Rock bow out of Munster Winter League

-

Last weekend, we had the first knock-out match in the last 16 stage of the Munster Winter League. It was the ladies grade 6 Team Rock who were in action and Crosshaven were providing the opposition.

From the offset, the strength in depth was evident from both sides, some sets going the distance with high quality tennis. The Crosshaven ladies battled well and managed to win the first two matches after some hard fought games. The second wave of matches was no different, but again the West Cork side just had enough to see out two more victories and win the fixture 4-0.

The result doesn’t give a fair reflection of how well our ladies performed and they gave it their all on the court. Crosshaven are a very strong side and will take some stopping in the competition and we wish them well. Team Rock can be proud of their campaign, captain Clair Nolan and her team mates Ann Milward, Edel Fitzgibbon and Liz Cotter did very well and the visiting teams to Mitchelstown were very complimentary of the hospitality they received from our ladies.

This coming weekend, we have three teams playing in the last 16 of the league.

On Saturday 26th, the grade 6 ladies (Paper) team are playing at home against Rushbrooke (Gold) at 9am. Captain Laura and her colleagues Marie, Barbara and Lindsey are looking forward to the game, determined to progress further into the competition and we wish them well.

On Sunday 27th, the ladies grade 4 team are playing in Mitchelstown where Sunday’s Well (Green) will be the visiting side. So far the ladies have been very impressive and we wish captain Marie Therese, Catherine, Ber and Olive the best of luck.

Once the grade 4 ladies match is completed, next up will be the men’s grade 5 team who will be playing against Douglas (White). The men won all 3 games in their group so hopefully the momentum will continue. We wish captain Sean, Paddy, Cillian and Ray the very best.

At 3pm, it will be for ages 8-12. These sessions do not replace the coaching on Wednesday’s and the courts will be adult supervised. Numbers are limited, so registration is required at yourcourts.com.
