The Avondhu

Waterford undone by hungry Cats

-

The Déise senior hurlers will certainly have a few scratches after Kilkenny dished out a six point defeat at Nowlan Park on Sunday last. Both teams progressed into the semi-finals but Brian Cody will be much happier after his team’s work rate and goal scoring prowess was ultimately the deciding factor in this very enjoyable contest.

Waterford looked more clinical early on with Dessie Hutchinson causing a major headache at corner forward. Austin Gleeson showed some lovely skill by sending a rasper hurtling towards goal only for it to go inches wide. Carthach Daly’s goalbound hand pass was intercepted and Kilkenny began to claw themselves back into this game. Goals from Cillian Buckley and Billy Ryan were the difference in the end and the Kilkenny supporters will be delighted with the result. Next up will be high flying Wexford next Saturday.

VANDALS CAUSE THOUSANDS OF EURO OF DAMAGE

What can only be described as a cowardly and senseless act of vandalism was carried out to the Lismore GAA clubhouse on Friday night, 18th March and again to the community centre on Saturday night, 19th March. Windows were smashed and window frames were damaged to both properties. Gardaí are investigating the incidents.

Lismore GAA takes great pride in our facilities and have invested substantially over the last number of years. We would much prefer to continue this investment for the boys and girls of our community rather than having to spend funds raised on senseless acts of vandalism. We would urge anyone that has any information to contact Lismore or Dungarvan Garda station.

SYMPATHY

Lismore GAA Club would like to extend its deepest sympathy to the Hegarty family on the recent death of Tim Hegarty, Hospital Lane, Lismore. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
