A huge congrats to Michelle Sweeney who matched all four numbers in our weekly lotto draw held on Monday night last. The numbers drawn were 6-10-14-20 and turned out to be the lucky ones for Michelle. She won for herself the tidy sum of €4,900. Happy spending Michelle. I know Karl is stating that it was his biro that was used in writing the ticket so you can buy him something out of the winnings.

Next week’s jackpot reverts back to €1,000 and on behalf of the club we thank you for your continued support. See lotto results elsewhere in this paper. Tickets are available from usual outlets or from our door to door seller John Ryan.

PATRICK’S DAY BIGGEST EVER

We had our biggest ever turnout for the Patrick’s day parade on Thursday last. Just over 140 boys and girls and coaches donned their park colours and represented the club in the parade. We thank each and every one of you for the effort you put in. Thanks to Joanne for organising a goodie bag for each participant after the parade. Well done to all involved in organising the parade.

GROUND DEVELOPMENT

At the time of writing, all 3 tender quotes for our new fully floodlit 4g all-weather pitch are now submitted. We will identify a contractor by early next week and hopefully have contracts signed by early April with a proposed start date then of late May early June. This is a huge undertaking by the club and will lead to substantial borrowings so we would ask for your continued support of any fundraising activities we promote.

PARK UTD YOUTHS

At the time of writing our youths were drawn away to the winners of Peake Villa (Thurles) or Villa FC (Waterford) in the quarter-finals of the Munster youth Cup. I can now confirm that it will be away to Waterford side Villa FC on week ending 9th-10th April.

PARK UTD U16S

It’s not too often we cover schoolboys notes in the paper, but I have to put in a few notes on our U16 boys 1st div win at home to Blarney Utd on Sunday morning last. All season this Blarney team have been unbeaten winning 13 and drawing 1 out of their 14 games played. In fact when Park played them away last December the score line read Blarney 6 v Park 1. But on Sun morning last Park had a point to prove and what a performance they put in. 2 goals from Cian English and 1 from Cian Coughlan saw Park inflict the first defeat of the season on this class Blarney side.

Paul Seymore and Shane O’Brien have done some job with this group of lads and if we can keep them together, this team will definitely put Park back on the map in years to come. Well done to all.

PARK UNITED UNDER 15S CORK SCHOOLBOYS LEAGUE DIV 2 Park United 1 Blarney Utd 1

Park United battled to a very impressive draw with second placed Blarney Utd in very tough conditions last Saturday. This draw comes off the back of a great away win against Avondale United last time out.

Park played against a gale force wind in the first half. The boys worked really hard to restrict Blarney to a few half chances in the first half with goalkeeper Harrison Kiely having very little to do.

The resilient defence of Corey, Maurice and Ben were in complete control when we conceded a very unfortunate and undeserved goal. A long directionless free kick was

going harmlessly wide it bounced defected off the unknowing Blarney player and wrong-footed Harrison.

The lads regrouped and were unlucky not to go in level after really good efforts from Dan and Tadhg.

Although disappointed to go in at the break, a goal down we felt we had a really good chance with gale force wind at our backs at the restart.

And so it played out. With Jake, Conor, Odhran and Jack K getting on top in midfield, we started to

create opportunities. Dieudo and Dan up front were creating all sorts of problems for Blarney up front. We missed a few chances and the team were starting to get a bit frustrated.

Cometh the hour, cometh the Man and up stepped Luke “Ronaldo” Cott with one of the best strikes that Park has seen in many a long year The Blarney defence cleared a cross from tenacious Jack Moher but not far enough. Luke was waiting about 25 yards out and absolute

ly pinged a world class half volley into the top right hand corner. 3 keepers wouldn’t have saved it.

The boys pushed for the winner and Dieudo was very unlucky not to finish one of the chances he created for himself, but the game finished up one all. Superb performance from the boys.

Onwards and upwards for the rest of the season.
