Minor hurlers win against Mayfield

-

Ballygiblin minor hurlers travelled to Mayfield on Saturday for their second league match. This year Ballygiblin minors have been placed in East Cork for the league, so have the experience of playing against teams they wouldn’t have played before. This weekend for the first time they played against the city’s Mayfield. On a very windy morning conditions were difficult for hurling, particularly as the pitch is located on a height. However, our lads worked hard and took control of the game from the start. Ballygiblin played with the wind in the first half and took a comfortable lead going into half time Ballygiblin 0-9 Mayfield 0-1.

Scores from Bobby Baker, Kevin Cotter and Eoin Flynn gave Ballygiblin a good lead. In the second half playing against the wind it proved more difficult to get scores. Mayfield took advantage of the wind and got a couple of points on the scoreboard early on. However, Ballygiblin fought back with a well taken goal by Eoin Brenock and continued to control the game. Mayfield did get a late goal but Ballygiblin proved too strong for the city side. The lads worked really hard in difficult conditions and ran out worthy winners. Final score Ballygiblin 1-11 Mayfield 1-04.
