Double win on St Patrick’s Day!

-

DIVISION 2 FOOTBALL LEAGUE Glanworth 0-5 Bandon 0-4

Our Intermediate footballers got back to winning ways on St Patrick’s day after a real battle against Bandon. It is a great sign of our players to be able to bounce back immediately after such a tough start to the league. I’m sure the management will be delighted with the character shown especially considering there are quite a few people who could come back into the team and with performances like this the management will have plenty to ponder on whether to change the team at all.

Team: Ciaran Cotter, John Blackburn, William Blackburn, Colm Whelton, Phillip Blackburn, Ger O’Neill, Tom Condon, Ross Murphy, Jack Coughlan, Podge Hannon, John O’Sullivan, Jerome Fitzgibbon, Ciaran Murphy, Stevie Condon and Emmett Sheehan. Subs: Jack Blackburn, Scott Sheehan and DJ Flynn.

U21 FOOTBALL FINAL

Many congratulations to the wonderful St Dominic U21s who captured the championship title after a hard fought victory over Ballycastle Gaels 2-12 to 3-5. It is wonderful to see silverware being won again at this grade. Well done to all involved, the hard work has paid off.

The captain was the wonderful Aaron Noonan and what a special moment for him. Also special mention to Noah, Jake, Jamie, Darragh and Peter who put in huge displays on the day. It has been a few years now in underage, we have joined with Shanballymore and this hopefully is the first of many U21 titles to come! Up the Dominics!

Team: Shay Coleman, Shane Mullins, Peter Condon, Leon Fitzharris, Cillian Loyd, Jamie Fogarty, Marc Moloney, Jake Buckley, Fionn Desmond, Noah Butler, Darragh O’Brien, Aaron Noonan, Cathal Barry, Harvey McGrath and Jordan O’Grady. Subs: Billy O’Grady, Colm Clancy, Conor McDonald and Ian Dwyer.

KEVIN ‘KAPPA’ QUINN POC FADA

Last Saturday the rearranged Poc Fada took place in splendid weather. Many thanks to everyone who took part in one of the highlights of the club’s year. Kevin was such a huge part of our club. He was a great player and a wonderful ambassador too.

I can’t quite believe this August will be 18 years since we lost him but he will never be forgotten. The Poc Fada itself was keenly contested and the results were as follows: Adult 1st Laurence Kiely, DJ Kiely and Ronan O’Callaghan. Adult 2nd Thomas Condon, Stevie Condon and Peter Condon. Juvenile 1st Paul Clancy, Adam O’Donoghue and Tom McGrath.

GLANWORTH G.A.A SCRAP METAL COLLECTION FUNDRAISER

Glanworth GAA is organising a scrap metal collection on the weekend of Sat, 9th April from 10am to 4pm at the old Co-Op Yard, P51 VR70. All funds raised will go towards the development of club facilities that already include a community gym, lit walkway and playing fields.

All unwanted scrap metal, batteries, motors, aluminium, copper electric cable, brass, lead, zinc, wire etc. would be greatly appreciated.
