No indication of when Rathcormac CFRAMS will begin

- KATIE GLAVIN

Concern regarding the lack of action on the CFRAMS programme devised by the Office of Public Works was highlighted this week.

An update on the programme was issued to council members in attendance at the Northern Committee meeting which took place online on Monday.

Senior Engineer for Flood Projects with Cork County Council Kevin Costello, acknowledged that the note regarding CFRAMS projects had not changed in his report for some time, and noted this was because the OPW had not yet moved onto the second tranche of the scheme under which both Rathcormac and Kanturk fall under.

“We’re in regular contact with the OPW but none of the second tranche schemes across the country have been approved as of yet,” Mr Costello said.

Local councillor Kay Dawson requested that the Northern Committee would write to OPW to express their concerns and gauge a time-frame for the local projects.

“We just don’t know with climate change that we could end up with flooding there again,” Cllr Dawson said.

In response, county engineer Kevin Morey stated that it is ‘disappointing’ that no indication of time-frames for the CFRAMS programme have been given as of yet but said that the councillors’ proposal to write had been noted.
