ST PATRICK’S BANK HOLIDAY WEEKEND

A lot of activities in our parish over the weekend. On Friday morning, Duhill Hall opened its doors to a very successful coffee morning in aid of Daffodil Day. It has been three years since the last one of these special days. This year people turned out in large numbers to support this very worthy cause and the sunshine added to the enjoyment of the morning for all the family.

Ballylooby Community Council introduced their first ever St Patrick’s Parade in the village, with something for all age groups and the sunshine helped to bring more to the village and enjoy the few hours. Well done to all involved.

COMMEMORATION

Saturday proved to be a lovely day for a commemoration of the great Sean Hogan IRA and the local brave men of the IRA ASU. Well done to Tom Hennessey for his trojan work in getting this event off the ground. A plaque was unveiled to the gallant men of that era one hundred years ago.

After leaving the plantation, forest roads will lead to trail down to another footbridge, then turn left back to the car park with the soothing sounds of the river gently lapping against the rocks by your side as you pass by the varied trees, plants and bushes that Glengarra is renowned for. Ballysaggart Community Development Co CLG ran its first Annual Happy Hack last Sunday, March 20th, one of its successful annual fundraising events over the years along with our regular monthly nonstop draw. Everyone who joined us had a lovely ride out around a beautiful trek through the forestry and mountain. Thank you to everyone who helped organise and run the event and to those who participated. And thank you to Gillian Condon, Photography who was there to capture the day.

The Development Company received good news on funding from Waterford Leader Partnership and the Local Community Development Company, in our application to Leader under the Rural Development Programme (RDP).

The good news is that the Development Company’s Application for Leader Funding has been approved and can now proceed with the development works in the Community Centre, and make it fit for purpose for all in the Ballysaggart area.

The Development Company wish to say a big thank you to all, for their good will and support over the past twelve years to achieve this important milestone. Going forward, the fundraising programme will continue with new events and we welcome anyone with fresh ideas for fundraising to come along and join as a Committee member.

GREAT ‘BIG BREAKFAST’

Burncourt Community Hall began to return to life last Sunday morning with the return of the ‘Big Breakfast’, the first since March 2019. It was a great morning, as families and friends relished their breakfasts, ably served by the waiting crew, hot from the hard working team in the kitchen. There was a great sense of normality, albeit a new one as the community kitchen echoed with orders and good humoured banter. A huge thanks to the regular loyal volunteers, the new recruits, who were super and the background committee who ensured that all was in sync.

As this was a fundraiser for much needed working funds for the Community Hall, our gratitude to the customers and to our sponsors Liam Finn, Egg Farm, Pat O’Brien, Plumber, English’s Fruit and Veg, Sweeney’s Mushrooms, Jimmy Fitzgerald, Pat Fox, our bakers Patsy Mulcahy, Margaret Fox and Mary O’ Brien and to David Fitzgerald, Butcher for his help. A huge combined effort that worked once again. Rock on normality.
