Daffodil Day well supported locally
Last Friday was Daffodil Day, the Irish Cancer Society’s annual day to raise funds and share stories of support from those with cancer, and those who have survived it. On one of the warmest and sunniest days so far this year, the streets of Mitchelstown were a little quiet when The Avondhu ventured out, but the many volunteers in town were kept busy with generous passers-by. In
Fermoy, support continued to be strong for this most deserving fundraiser.
Young and old joined the cause, as students from both Presentation Secondary School and Coláiste Fionnchua in Mitchelstown played their part in collecting outside two supermarkets in town - though the girls admitted that the chance to skip class and stand in the sun wasn’t one to be missed either!
Earlier in March, the Irish Cancer Society also announced that they would be appoint
ing a Ukrainian Crisis Coordinator for those arriving in the country from the war who are also being treated for cancer, and are also opening their Children’s Fund to any Ukrainian family who has travelled to Ireland with a child who has cancer.
The society also has an online shop where people can support the charity year-round, with reusable cups, bandanas for dogs, a water bottle - and even a reusable face mask! Although the daffodil sales may have disappeared for another year from our town thoroughfares, you can still donate online
or learn more by visiting cancer.ie.
