€30,000 allocation for Kiltrislane junction
€30,000 has been allocated to safety works at the road junction near Kiltrislane in Mitchelstown, in a move praised by local councillor Deirdre O’Brien. The junction at L-5711 and the R639 was included in the 2022 road allocations list, under ‘safety improvement works’.
Pointing out that motorists have to make a wide turn to use the junction, Cllr O’Brien said she was ‘delighted’ to see the allocation made on an issue she brought up in the past, and in February’s meeting of the Northern Committee at Cork County Council.
BALLYENAGHAN JUNCTION
Earlier in March, the council also confirmed that they are looking at the N73, specifically the section after Ballyenaghan Junction, and have requested that the TII fund a full pavement overlay scheme at the site.
CLONMEL ROAD
Another Mitchelstown project that won’t be funded is the request for traffic calming measures on the Clonmel Road. The call was made by Cllr Frank O’Flynn, who said that the request had been made at local level and there were many pedestrians and families living on the road.
The response from the council was that there is no budget in place currently for such a scheme, and that a raised Belisha crossing has been placed across nearby the main entrance to Dairygold, which has helped to control speeds.
