Old Kilcrumper Graveyard Friends’ books now available at the library
The two books published by Old Kilcrumper Graveyard Friends Association were presented to Fermoy and Cork County libraries recently.
Except for headstone inscriptions, there is no record of those that are buried in the historic graveyard at Old Kilcrumper.
The book on ‘Kilcrumper Historic Graveyard’ contains inscriptions of all the headstones in the graveyard, except for two that were unreadable.
It also contains an alphabetical list of those buried in the graveyard.
According to Kieran Jordan of the Old Kilcrumper Graveyard Friends, the group often receive enquiries from those tracing their genealogy, histories and family trees or those looking for specific graves and the ‘Kilcrumper Historic Graveyard’ could help people on their searches
“We do have many people asking and enquiring about where a grave might be,” he said.
Copies of the book have now been donated to both Fermoy Library and the County Library.
The book on ‘Willie Brennan, Irish Highwayman; the True Story’ was also donated to both libraries and it separates the fact from the fiction about Brennan, who is buried at Old Kilcrumper.
November 2021 saw the book launched with proceeds supporting the continuing work at Kilcrumper Old Cemetary.
Along with regular maintenance, the Old Kilcrumper Graveyard Friends Association have further plans underway for this year as they work towards installing information boards and section markers at different sections of the graveyard which is planned for this year.
“We’re planning on putting in memorials some time soon for the unnamed people buried in the free ground. Looking longer term, we would hope to improve the footpaths too,” Mr Jordan added.
Recently, a new bench seat was added. Sponsored by Fermoy Lions Club, this is the sixth seat to have been installed.
