BALLYSAGGART
UKRAINIAN REFUGEE COMMUNITY CALL RESPONSE FORUM
Ballysaggart Community Development Company CLG hosted a meeting in the Community Centre last Friday evening, with representatives from all of the groups in the community in attendance. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss what the Ballysaggart Community can offer to the Ukrainian Refugee call.
This meeting followed a Zoom meeting organised by the City and County Manager, Michael Walsh in which he set up the Ukrainian Refugee Community Call Response Forum.
Michael Walsh gave a brief background on what is happening at a national level. Representatives from community clubs and groups from all around the county attended the meeting and a good discussion took place.
The Ballysaggart Development Company will be the point of contact going forward with the main stakeholders in County Waterford on behalf of the Community as they are already a well-established group. At our meeting last Friday night the main topics discussed were the possibility of providing accommodation and support services to any Ukrainian Refugees who may come to our community. Anyone who has any ideas or suggestions can speak to Michael Walsh or to any of the local clubs representatives and they will be brought to the next Ukrainian Refugee Call Response meeting which will be held in the community centre next Friday at 8pm, this meeting may be subject to change, in which case attendees will be notified. Due to Covid19 still at a high level only representatives from each group or club will be attending. The representatives will then report back to their club or group.
