Fermoy Tidy Towns’ AGM on Monday

-

The Annual General Meeting of Fermoy Tidy Towns will take place on Monday, April 4, 2022, at 7.30pm in The Wagon Tavern. The group would like to see a big turnout at the meeting to show your appreciation for all the work that has been done around the town.

Fermoy Tidy Towns are a small group of very hard-working volunteers who give freely of their time to keep the town clean and tidy but they can only do so much. That’s why they are always looking for more volunteers to come on board.

Now that summertime has arrived, the work really starts with plenty of potting, planting, weeding, cutting and cleaning to be done,.

The group usually meets twice a week and if you feel you could give them an hour or two of your time, you can contact Noel McCarthy on 086-3751736 or Paul Kavanagh on 086-2620630 for further details.

I took a walk around Fermoy on Sunday evening last and the amount of rubbish on the streets was a disgrace. Empty plastic bottles, pizza boxes, chip cartons and other containers were just thrown there, I passed one particular area where a group of young people were sitting on the wall eating pizzas and other food but the mess that they left after them for someone else to clean up was an absolute disgrace. Empty cartons, plastic bottles all over the place and a bin just around the corner.

Why should someone else have to clean up after them? They obviously had no respect for the area. All you have to do is pick it up and bin it.
