CORRIN MART REPORT

The good spell of weather is certainly playing into our hands at the moment in the mart business. This week in Corrin we had a very large number of cattle on offer and the good weather and favourable ground conditions meant that there was an increase of buyers from all around the country to bid for cattle this week. Trade was very lively and prices were similar or improved in most cases on last week.

COWS

Very large entry of cows met an extraordin­ary trade.

Store cows: 400kgs to 550kgs making from €1.45 per kilo to €2.05 per kilo.

Heavier cows: 550kgs+ making from €1.75 per kilo up to €2.35 per kilo.

AA 710kg €1,640; Friesians 780kg €1,610; Friesians 560kg €1,120.

BULLOCKS

Increase in numbers again this week. A very strong demand for all bullocks.

Light stores: under 350kgs made from €1.50 per kilo for plain Friesians up to €3.06 for Continenta­l bullocks. With AA/ Hereford types making from €2.120 per kilo up to €2.86 per kilo.

Medium stores: 350kgs to 500kgs starting at €1.56 for Friesians up to €2.70 per kilo for Continenta­ls. AA/Hereford bullocks made from €2.20 up to €2.63 per kilo.

Fwd. stores: 500kgs to 600kgs. The plainer Friesians started at €1.90 per kilo up to €2.85 per kilo.

Heavy bullocks: 600kgs+. Good demand for heavy bullocks making from €2.10 up to €2.75 per kilo.

BB 294kgs €1,130; Hereford 300kgs €860; AA 580kgs €1,550; Hereford 500kgs €1,320.

HEIFERS

Improved trade for heifers this week.

Store heifers: under 400kgs made from €2.03 up to €2.63 per kilo. AA/ Hereford averaged at €2.20 per kilo.

Butchers heifers: 400kgs+. These type heifers made from €2.12 up to €2.73 per kilo, with AA/Hereford averaging at €2.35 per kilo.

AA 605kgs €1,590; Limousin 450kgs €1,230; AA 270kgs €700; Hereford 495kgs €1,290.

CALVES

The calf sales in Corrin Mart now take place on Wednesdays. Still large numbers each sale, strong trade last week for all calves.
