AGM WELL ATTENDED
The Club AGM was held on Friday, March 11th in the Parochial Hall in Ballyporeen. The meeting was well attended on the night with a lot of interaction from the floor.
The following Executive Committee was elected for 2022; Chairperson Tadhg O’Brien, secretary Breda Fitzgibbon and treasurer Francis Martin. We wish them every success in their positions for the coming year, especially Tadgh who steps into the chairperson’s role.
On the night, the outgoing Chairperson Tom Maher thanked everyone for their support over the duration of his 5-year term and congratulated the Junior hurlers on their great achievements in 2021.
A motion to form a review committee to look at a ‘One Club Model’ with the Ballyporeen Football Club was passed as a recommendation and we expect feedback on that during the year.
CLUB MEMBERSHIP
The membership fee for 2022 was set as follows: playing member €50, non-playing member €30, U19s/OAPs - €20. The membership deadline is this Thursday, March 31st. Membership can be paid online through Foireann for players and existing members. Links are in the club’s social media pages.
VICTORY SOCIAL
The Victory Social to honour the success of our Junior Hurlers in 2021 took place on St Patricks Night, March 17th in Cahir House Hotel. It proved to be a wonderful occasion befitting of the team’s efforts in 2021. The medal presentation was made by County Chairperson Joe Kennedy who spoke warmly of the club and its achievements in recent years. We thank everyone for their support and the organising committee for their efforts in putting the event together.
INTERMEDIATE HURLING LEAGUE FIXTURE
Our intermediate hurlers kicked off the year on March 20th with a hard-fought victory away to Moyle Rovers in the opening round of division 4 of the County Hurling League on a scoreline of 2-12 to 2-11 with the goals coming in either half from Glen Walsh and Riain Hennessey.
Our second round is scheduled from this Sunday, April 3rd at home in Ballyporeen to Arravale Rovers at 12 noon. Please come out and support.
LAST MAN STANDING UPDATE
After a two-week break for FA Cup and International games, the Premiership and the Last Man Standing competition resumes this weekend. There are 19 players still in the running for the €500 pot and we wish everyone the best of luck.
RECENT BEREAVEMENTS
We were deeply saddened to hear of the death of Eileen Fitzgerald (nee Noonan) of Woodhouse last Friday night. Our sympathies are extended to her husband John, sons John and Dessie and daughter Emer and extended family members at this sad time.
The club also wish to extend our deepest sympathies to the
O’Brien family, Coolagarranroe on the death of Peg and the Kenneally family Ballyporeen and Mitchelstown. Our thoughts are with you at this sad time.
