Coláiste Fionnchua ladies footballers head to Munster final

-

This week sees the culmination of a long season for Coláiste Fionnchua junior ladies footballers. It has been a long and successful season so far, with our girls victorious in all matches both at county and at Munster level.

We broke out of the group stages with comprehensive wins over Millstreet Community School (9-14 to 1-02) and Scoil Mhuire, Kanturk (7-21 to 0-01). A victory over Gaelcholáiste Chéitínn (Tipperary) soon followed before we faced Laurel Hill Coláiste FCJ (Limerick).

This was our toughest match to date but having managed to overcome a 9 point deficit at half time, we ran out winners on a scoreline of 8-04 to 6-07. It is on the back of these victories that we now play in our first ever ladies football Munster final against Gaelcholáiste Chiarraí

However, it is not just at Muster level where our junior ladies footballers are succeeding. We are also through to the semi-final of the Cork competition, having beaten Ursuline Secondary School.

We await the winners of St Peters Community School, Passage West and Coláiste Mhuire, Cobh.

Huge work has been put into this team by their trainer Ms A McGrath, who has been coaching them for the past number of

years. Their management team was joined this year by Mr Shanahan, who brings a wealth of experience to the team. They have enjoyed success in the past, having won the least last year, as well numerous blitzes.

There have been great performances throughout the year by a number of players, with standout performances from some of the more seasoned players on the team. Players such as Mackenzie Hickey, Leah Geary, Misha Spillane and

Maeve Heenan have shown great leadership this year, and have led many of our younger players to success. We wish the team and their mentors the very best of luck in their Munster final.
