Hurlers lose away to Clyda Rovers
Our division 1 hurlers unfortunately started the league campaign with an opening day defeat in Mourneabbey.
Ballyhooly started the game well and after playing with the wind we went in at half-time leading 1-9 to 0-6. Our goal coming from Gearoid Roche after some good work from Dan Roche. We were unfortunately guilty of not taking some chances that came our way, and Clyda came out quickly in the second half and scored 1-2 without reply. However, we found our way to knock over a few points and led 1-12 to 1-10 with 5 minutes left. Clyda finished very strongly with another 1-3 to go 4 points up and while we goaled through Diarmuid Linehan in injury time, we failed to score a very scoreable shot with the last puck of the game.
Overall, a solid enough performance considered we were missing a few regular starters and its early in the training plan for the year, and a bit of experimenting was done in a few positions. A big well done and welcome to Mark Burdett and Brian Lombard who made their adult club debuts. Final score Clyda Rovers 2-13 Ballyhooly 2-12.
