Wexford humbled by rampant Waterford

-

In what was meant to be a close encounter, Waterford found their goal scoring rhythm last Sunday at a near perfect Spring day in Nowlan Park. The intent on making the league final was palpable as five quality goals put any challenge from Wexford to rest. The Déise were creating the space they needed to create all sorts of problems for The Model County and it wasn’t long before Austin Gleeson pounced for his first green flag of the day. His second was to come from a sublime overhead pass from Dessie Hutchinson for Gleeson to control, striking on the left from an acute angle to give Mark Fanning no chance.

Lismore’s Iarlaith and Carthrach Daly and Jack Prendergast played their part with Jack getting another super goal to put this tie to an end. It was simply an awesome display from Waterford and Darragh Egan will be left with a few questions on how to rally his Wexford side before championship in only a few weeks’ time. We now meet Cork in the decider this Saturday in Semple Stadium. Come what may, Waterford are in a good place and Liam Cahill may have a selection headache such was the contribution of the Déise bench. We wish all the mentors and players especially Jack, Iarlaith and Carthrach the very best of luck.
