ALL SYSTEMS GO

-

It was a relatively quiet week on the playing front, with the Rebel Óg and Go Games programs focussing on football. This week however, there are no fewer than five Rebel Óg hurling games fixed and the resumption of the G o Games program for hurling. This weekend our Fé9, Fé10 and Fé11 teams will play their first series of games, followed next week by the Fé8 team and the week after by the Fé7 team, by the weekend of April 9th, all 5 age groups will have already played at least one series of hurling and football Go Games.

There is great credit due to Colm Crowley, his fellow GDA’s and the Go Games organisers for formulating a plan to accommodate over 10,100 kids across 129 clubs in both codes ranging from Fé7 to Fé11. The game format is tailored to the age group, with a focus on increasing ball contact, space, activity and enjoyment with fewer players on the pitch. Fé7 will be playing 5-a-side on a 35m x 25m pitch for 3 x 20-minute games with Fé11 playing 9-a-side on a 75m x 45m pitch in 3 x 20-minute games.

EQUIPMENT RE-CYCLING DRIVE

Starting on Saturday, March 26th we are launching our equipment recycling drive, with particular emphasis on our underage club. With so many new families in the parish and in an effort to minimise the cost of getting started and maximise accessibility to hurling, we are asking that if anyone has hurleys or helmets which they no longer use, that they be dropped to the clubrooms where our drop boxes will be located.

The clubrooms will be open every Saturday morning between 10am and 1pm where we will have a ‘home for hurleys’ and a ‘helmet hub’ where items may be dropped for re-use. We will ensure that all equipment is fully sanitised before re-distribution and make sure that no child goes without. This initiative will primarily benefit our juvenile club by providing affordable access to equipment and who knows, maybe unearthing the next Daire O’Leary from our underage academy.

TEXT SERVICE RE-LAUNCH

This year we are re-launching our supporters text messaging service as another way to keep members up-to-date with upcoming fixtures. If you would like a weekly supporter’s message with fixtures for Watergrasshill and Glenville hurling, football, camogie and ladies football matches please contact Paud O’Neill 0879890964 or Barry Joyce 087-1847017. There is a nominal fee of €5 per year for this service. We would also appreciate if members could share this service with those who are not on social media as we have found in previous years that this service is very beneficial for them.

LOTTO

There was no winner of the lotto jackpot this week. Numbers drawn were 1, 7, 17 and 29. Lucky dip winners are Nora and Shane O’Riordan, Padraig McHugh, Eugene F O’Neill, and Mark Sheehan. Congrats to you all. Next week’s jackpot is a fantastic €12,600 and draw will take place Monday, 28th March. Tickets are on sale in some of the village businesses like The Hut Bar, The Fir Tree, Johnny’s Shop and our new lotto stand in Ross’s Centra. Tickets can also be purchased online via our club website.

The club would like to take this opportunity to thank all our members and supporters of the Watergrasshill GAA Club lotto. The club lotto is a vital source of income for the running of all our teams within the club and for future development of our facilities, so we ask you to please support it if you are in a position to do so. Remember, if you’re not in you can’t win.

REGISTRATION REMINDER

A final reminder to all club players, parents, supporters and friends from far and wide - club membership for 2022 is now due. Club membership is not only mandatory for all players to register with the GAA, but also important in support of our club’s ongoing capital program by ensuring our membership numbers are accurate. Registration is as easy as 1-2-3. 1 - use the Clubforce app – select membership – choose your option. 2 - click the registration link. 3 - reach out through any of our social media platforms. We have playing, non-playing, social and family membership options and would encourage everyone to register and be part of an exciting year for the club.
