Galtee Gaels 4-8 Knockmealdown Gaels 5-5

In the build-up to the first round of the U15 Football Championship, Galtee Gaels faced up to the strong challenge of Knockmealdown Gaels under lights in Clogheen last Tuesday evening.

It was the opposition who were first to score with a point on 2 minutes, however for the next 20 minutes Galtee Gales were on top scoring 2-2 without reply with a goal and 2 points from the in-form Eoghan Fitzgerald and a wonderful lofted goal from 20 metres for Conor McNamara. Knockmealdown Gaels responded with a Goal and a point to leave the scoreline at half-time 2-3 to 1-2 in favour of Galtee Gaels.

The 2nd half proved to be a ding-dong affair with the home team coming more into the game and 5 minutes into the half the sides were level. A further goal and two points from that man Eoghan Fitzgerald had Galtee Gaels ahead 3-6 to 2-5 midway through the 2nd half.

For the majority of the final quarter, it was Knockmealdown Gaels who were on top scoring 3 goals in quick succession and leaving Galtee Gaels a goal behind going into the closing stages of the game.

However, in the final minute of the game up stepped, none other than Eoghain Fitzgerald, to crash the ball to the back of the net securing a well-deserved draw for the Gaels and a personal tally on the night of 3-6. It was a good performance all round by Gaels and sets them up nicely for the first round of the championship when Gaels play host to Monaleen on Monday evening next, April 4th at 6.30pm.
