Fundraising supper for St Mary’s Church, Castletownroche

-

Thanks to the Built Heritage Investment Scheme (BHIS) 2022, St. Mary’s Church of Ireland Castletownroche has been recommended for a grant offer for a project of €15,000.

St. Mary’s Church and graveyard occupy a commanding site overlooking the Awbey River at the eastern approach to Castletownroche village. St Mary’s is said to be built on the site of an earlier church. The design of the church is attributed to James Pain and was built in almost 200 years ago in 1825. It is said to be fairly typical of the later phase of the First Fruits Gothic style, but has a somewhat more lofty and graceful appearance than many country churches built in that style.

The work that needs to get done at present is repointing to stonework to the tower, repair of glass window to the west elevation and internal joinery repairs to the tower including the stairs. So in order to get some funds together the parishioners have now decided to have a fundraising raffle and have the draw at a Buffet Supper on the 6th May in the community hall in Castletownroche at 8pm.

Tickets for the supper are €20 and there is a family rate available also. Please pre-book your tickets before the 4th May from Hazel Ladd on 087-9471182 or Diana Buckley on 086-1547810, or any church member. Raffle lines are €5, or 5 lines for €20. The 1st Prize for the raffle is €500 cash which was kindly donated, plus there are numerous other prizes of vouchers and hampers.

The organisers would like to say thanks to all the local businesses and everyone who donated raffle prizes, and reminds all people interested that their support would be greatly appreciated. “Thanking you all in anticipation.”
