Enhanced entrance to Glenseskin Wood

- KATIE GLAVIN

This week saw works carried out at Glenseskin Woods Kilworth to improve the entrance to the popular local amenity.

According to a Coillte spokesperson, works were carried out by Cork County Council to upgrade the county road near Glansheskin forest to improve local access.

In October last year, funding to the tune of €20,000 was allocated to the amenity under the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme for enhancement and resurfacing off the entrance and an upgrade to the outer car park.

Speaking with The Avondhu, Seán Hegarty of Kilworth Community Council said that a ‘brilliant job’ had been done in the area, giving credit to Cork County Council Senior Engineer, Brendan O’Gorman for his part in the works.

“There were some problems at the entrance and water was coming down Graigue Boreen into the entrance, cutting across it and creating potholes but there is a beautiful job done there now and proper gullies have been installed to take the water

“Glenseskin woods are very much used, especially during Covid. The number of walkers in the area went up tenfold. Bishopstown walkers have around 500 members and they come out in groups to use it, the scouts use it, the GAA use it for their training. It’s a brilliant amenity and the work done there was very much needed for the area,” Mr Hegarty said.

Kilworth Community Council currently have a sub-committee who are in discussions with Coillte regarding the future development of the amenity.

It is understood that the group aim to see more walks and seating installed in the future.
