Watergrasshill gastropub make ‘100 Best Restaurants’ list
Thirty years ago, in 1992, John and Sally McKenna launched their first edition of the 100 Best Restaurants in Ireland.
Recently, the celebrated food journalists published a new list featuring one local restaurant, O’Mahony’s of Watergrasshill.
Opened by Maire O’Mahony and her partner Victor Murphy, O’Mahony’s offers local food and drink in modern rustic surroundings.
The restaurant also featured in the ‘100 Best Restaurants’ list in 2020 while in 2019, it was announced the ‘Best Gastropub in Cork’ by the Restaraunt Association Awards.
According to The 100 Best Restaurants in Ireland list, published in the most recent edition of the Sunday Times, the local gastropub offers a sense of ‘ quiet grace’ in their cooking.
“This may be a country pub in the village of Watergrasshill, a little way off the M8 motorway, but there is a cosmopolitan finesse to Barry Phelan’s cooking and John Coleman’s drinks offer, and the experience is always bolstered by a truly warm welcome.
“Murphy is one of the most respected hospitality professionals in Cork, and he makes running a restaurant seem logical, simple and profound. People travel for many miles to eat at O’Mahony’s, a haven of country charm and the best country cooking,” it reads.
Welcoming their addition to the list, O’Mahony’s of Watergrasshill noted that it was ‘ the best news ever on a sunny Sunday morning’.
