Castletownroche N.S. has plenty to offer

- JOHN AHERN

Castletownroche National School hosted a very well attended open night last Thursday. Parents of existing and prospective pupils turned up to tour the facility and chat with staff.

Principal, Eoin Bracken, who couldn’t be there in person, spoke with visitors virtually. He highlighted the excellent facilities the school possessed, as well as the focus it puts on extra curricular activity.

Castletownroche is set on a generous 2 acre site, which has allowed for the construction of a walking/ running track. While the sporting prowess of students will always vary, the school places a lot of emphasis on staying active and being fit. Mental health is as important as physical wellbeing and there’s a dedicated space (sensory room) for children to unwind and reflect. Pupils have access to a cookery room, as well as being able to avail of both a breakfast and homework club. The school has also been awarded several flags for a range of environmental and social projects.

COMPREHENSIVE TOUR

Guided tours were provided by pupils, who projected a very positive image of their school. Indeed, the youthful guides impressed all with their competency and professionalism.

EMBRACING TECHNOLOGY

National schools have moved on a lot from from chalk and dusters and Castletownroche N.S. hasn’t been slow embracing cutting edge technology. Newly acquired tablets have added a new dimension to teaching and, as a result, students’ IT and computer skills are constantly improving.
