Palace Players finish festival circuit with a 5th win

-

Palace Players travelled to their eight and final festival on Saturday to Glenamaddy in Co Galway where they recorded their 5th win in the open section with their play ‘Chapatti’ by Christian O’Reilly.

Adjudicator Irene O’Meara said she had given Palace Players the highest mark she has ever awarded in her time adjudicating. Sean Aherne and Mary Colbert took the awards for best actor and best actress, Danny Buckley won the best director award and they also won the Premier Award - the Jim Pete Cup.

This was a great finish to a busy festival schedule. They now await the draw to know what night they will perform in the All-Ireland final in Athlone - the draw takes place on Easter Monday in the the Dean Crowe Theatre there.

Congrats to our near neighbours Ballyduff who have recorded one more than us with six wins to their credit. It speaks volumes that two neighbouring groups have between them no less than eleven wins from a total of 35 festivals countrywide. It certainly will make for an exciting All-Ireland this year!

Prior to the All-Ireland, ‘Chapatti’ will hit the stage of The Palace Theatre, Fermoy on dates yet to be announced (probably early May) so watch this space for updates!
