An iconic show at Saint George’s

-

It has been one superb show after another since Saint George’s Arts and Heritage Centre re-opened before Christmas, and North Cork’s newest performance venue has another great show on the way this month.

‘Iconic’ is an exciting show that brings together the world’s most iconic music under one umbrella. It stars some of the most delicious performers in Ireland in the form of soprano Emer Barry, tenor Eoin Hynes, pianist Mary McCague and violinist Lynda O’Connor.

“We’ve had fantastic shows since we re-opened last Christmas,” said Saint George’s chairman, Bill Power, “but I think this one is going to top them all.”

This show has several well-known songs such as ‘Nessun Dorma’, ‘ Wuthering Heights’ and ‘Can’t Help Falling in Love,’ which are all performed in a modern classical style called ‘ Classical Crossover’. It’s a genre that is home to the likes of Andrea Bocelli, Sarah Brightman and Josh Groban. Classical Crossover has produced its own iconic stars and a host of music that is loved the world over including The Prayer and Time to Say Goodbye.

Saint George’s in Mitchelstown is attracting audiences from a wider area than ever, and is hosting the show on Friday, 22nd April at 8pm.

“This really means that Ireland’s own Bocelli and Brightman, accompanied by top classical musicians, can bring you on an unforgettable journey of iconic favourites,” said Bill. “To be able to do this in Mitchelstown is something that we are delighted to be able to do.”

One of the reasons that the €20 tickets for this show are so reasonably priced is because of the funding received from the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media and Cork County Council.

“Without this support venues such as ours simply couldn’t manage to host such amazing shows,” said Bill.

Soprano Emer Barry has recently taken a step away from formal operatic performance to focus on a recording and touring career in the Classical Crossover genre. Her YouTube channel boasts an impressive four million views across the streaming platform and her global following is continuously growing.

She has toured the States with ‘Songs of Ireland,’ and joined the RTE Concert Orchestra in May 2019 as guest soloist for RTE Lyric FM. She played the role of Audrey Hepburn in a soldout show about the icons life in the National Concert Hall. Emer also performs regularly as a soloist with The Army Band.

Tenor Eoin Hynes studied voice with acclaimed tenor Emmanuel Lawler. He is a multiple prize winner at Dublin Feis Ceoil has won a number of important awards, including the prestigious Count John McCormack Cup. Eoin has performed as soloist/principal role at various venues including the National Concert Hall, Gaiety Theatre, Westminster Cathedral, Wembley Arena and the Stephansdom Cathedral Vienna.

Tickets for the show are available on Eventbrite, or by calling 087-8113611. However, because of the anticipated demand, it will not be possible to book tickets without payment. Tickets will also be available from The Favourite, Reidy’s Kitchen Garden Shop and Roche’s Spar. It’s worth also noting that audience members are welcome to bring their own beverages to enjoy during the show.
