Castlelyons group climb for MMD/ Pieta House

-

Corrin Cross is a local Castlelyons/ Fermoy landmark treasure and a wonderful amenity in all its serene loveliness and its iconic presentation of nature’s richness and beauty. It seemed the perfect place to gather on Saturday last as Charlie Bird made his way to the summit of Croagh Patrick and at foot of Corrin, a large group of locals, others from afar, walked to Corrin summit in solidarity with him and his comrades.

Our local historian James Owers, who is an avid researcher of all things connected with our heritage, culture and true Gaelic past, shared his findings with a very keen audience. There is so much to know about Corrin Hill with its 30’ stone Cross standing tall, the Cairn of stone dating back to early bronze age and a Hilltop Fort dating back to early Iron age. I wish I could document all of James account of the mystery, geology and majestic magnitude of this local monument but we have promised we will do it all again when our fine Summer days dawn.

A special thanks to James indeed to share his apparent grá for Corrin and his adept knowledge with us and also to all who graced this worthy fundraiser with their welcome presence. Their efforts have yielded €750 so far, with donations (to Eilís) still forthcoming. Ní neart go cur le chéile.
