Busy times for Lismore Tidy Towns
With the dry weather of the past two weeks Wednesday morning work has been very successful for the Lismore Tidy Towns work team, Railings at the traffic lights & Millennium Park gates. have been washed as has the bandstand, plus the area surrounding the timber seat and the cobbles at the Obelisk and beds in the Park weeded.
Jim Noonan our CE worker has also washed street bins and has painted them too and is now in the process of painting the junction boxes. We welcome our new CE worker Kieran Fraher who started work this week. With the longer evenings work will now be carried on Monday evenings as well as Monday mornings.
Great to see the trees on Main Street shaped and trimmed and pruning of trees on South Mall and Fernville. A lot of building work going on at the moment on Main Street, at the Hotel, Arcade and the ex O’ Gorman’s shop premises which is great for the future of the town.
The community litter roster started on Monday last 4th April and thanks to all participants. It would be great to see all members of the business community sweeping up outside their properties on a regular basis and thus contribute to the tidy towns effort in the town.
Thanks to all those who supported the Easter Hampers Draw outside Houlihan’s Garage Ballyrafter on Friday 1st April. Our thanks also to Michael and Joan Houlihan for their hospitality. We will be selling lines outside Beecher’s Centra this Friday 8th April.
Pre Covid Lismore Tidy Towns had carried out a lot of work in relation to the use of single use coffee/ tea cups, had launched a Lismore reusable cup in association with Lismore Heritage Centre and most restaurants in Lismore were part of the Conscious Cup campaign. Then Covid hit and single use cups came back into use with over 200 million of them going to landfill last year. The Government is now
encouraging people to revert back to using reusable cups and intends to bring in a levy of 20 cent for each single use cups.
