The Avondhu

THE SHOW GOES ON

-

The Fermoy Men’s Club meets again on Monday next (April 11th) at 3pm in the Anderson Room of the Youth and Community Centre. Although Covid is still very prevalent in society, the committee feel it is important we keep events going for those members interested and so, as such, the show must go on.

The effect of the pandemic was noticeable at our last meeting in March when just 38 members attended, a drop of 20 from our previous meeting. This downward trend in numbers may continue for another while yet before things pick-up once again.

SINGSONG

Next Monday’s meeting will be an internal affair with entertainment provided by club members themselves. First up will be John O’Mahony, a native of Fermoy, who will be interviewed about his life growing-up and his time spent working in England when he emigrated in early 1968. Following John, we will be treated to a music and entertainment session by members of the Michael Dunne Singing Group. This group has visited many local nursing homes and day care centres over the past number of years providing light relief through laughter and song for both residents and staff.

OTHER NEWS

In March’s meeting, HSE Community Worker, Mary Cleary, gave a great account of being part of a voluntary group in Palestine where the actions of Israeli soldiers in disputed territories were monitored. With no bus outings planned for the foreseeable future due to the pandemic, these monthly club meetings are now the primary event available to the membership and we hope to be able to continue offering this going forward.

Finally, condolences are extended to long-standing club member Dick Daly and family on the recent sad passing of his wife, Mary. May she rest in peace.
