It has been highly encouraging the response to the opening day defeat and hopefully this form will long continue. Well done to all involved.

GLANWORTH GAA SCRAP METAL COLLECTION FUNDRAISER

Glanworth GAA is organising a scrap metal collection on the weekend of Saturday, 9th April from 10am to 4pm at the old Co-Op Yard, P51 VR70. All funds raised will go towards the development of club facilities that already include a community gym, lit walkway and playing fields.

All unwanted scrap metal, batteries, motors, aluminium, copper electric cable, brass, lead, zinc, wire etc., would be greatly appreciated. Larger items such as farm machinery and scrap cars can be collected from your home, yard or place of business, at a time that suits you. Contact William on 086-1089282 or Ciaran 086-3761816 to arrange this. You can also contact STR directly to arrange larger collections. Call them on 025-84162 and tell them it is for Glanworth GAA.

GLANWORTH GAA JUVENILE CLUB

The Juvenile Club is back in the swing of things with training and we were delighted to welcome a number of new members in recent weeks.

We were lucky to have had a hurling training session led by Carrigtwohill legend Mickey ‘ Da’ Fitzgerald and a football session led by Cork stalwart Michael Shields who are coaching the Glanworth adult club this year. The boys enjoyed the sessions and the new voices were refreshing to hear.

The U11 group played Castletownroche in hurling at the weekend. As usual with Castletownroche, this was a well-contested match and the Glanworth lads played really well with last years’ U9 boys making the transition up. It was a very good game.

The U9s welcomed Bride Rovers to Glanworth on Saturday. Both teams were very evenly matched and had a great game of hurling. This was the first match for many of the U9s at that age-group and they did really well, displaying the skills that they have developed over the last couple of years at U7.

Both the U9 and U11 teams will visit their Fermoy counterparts in football this Saturday morning.

We recently gave families the opportunity hand in any hurleys, helmets and football boots that may no longer be used so that they can be passed on to younger members who could give them a second life. Thanks very much to those who dropped in gear, we will accept gear again towards the end of April.

ANNUAL SPONSORED WALK 2022

We are holding our annual sponsored walk on April 24th. This is the juvenile club’s fundraiser for the year and the lads are selling lines on their sponsorship cards to raise money. They will walk a 5km course starting from the clubhouse on the day and this should be an exciting day for all the family - all are welcome. Please support our young players in their efforts - the money raised will go towards club equipment for their use.

Visit the Glanworth GAA and Harbour Rovers GAA social media page for details.

Finally, congratulations to all the local boys and girls who recently got their confirmation.
