BEAMISH STOUT SENIOR CUP Mayfield Utd AFC 4 Kilworth Celtic Seniors 1

Celtic played a good brand of football at their away fixture to Mayfield Utd AFC on Friday night. The team competed well in the first half and were unlucky to trail 2-1 at the break despite free-flowing and precise interlink play. It really looked like it could be Celtic’s night.

There were several excellent chances in the first 15 minutes after the resumption, but Celtic just weren’t able to convert. Mayfield then scored a spectacular goal from just inside the box, which took the wind out of Celtic’s charge. A late fourth goal effectively ended the tie, but full credit to our boys, who gave a really strong account of themselves - it just wasn’t reflected on the score sheet tonight.

ST COLMAN’S VS PATRICIAN ACADEMY, MALLOW

Kilworth Celtic’s home ground Sheila Flynn Park played host to a riveting match between Fermoy’s St Colman’s and Patrician Academy on Thursday last. The sides were locked at 2-2 at full time, and extra time, when the match was decided by a thrilling penalty shootout. The boys from Mallow just shaded it, and came away with the spoils. Shootouts never seem to do a game justice, and unfortunately the local side walked away empty-handed after a brilliant on-field performance.

KILWORTH CELTIC SENIOR LADIES VS GREENWOOD FC OF TOGHER

The senior ladies had a great hit-out in bright sunshine on the weekend, hosting Greenwood FC of Cork City. It’s the first senior ladies match I’ve seen and I was impressed with the speed and quality of play. There’s a great future ahead for the squad, make no mistake!

WWEC U12 LEAGUE Inch Utd 2 Kilworth Celtic FC 3

Inch opened the tie with 3 minutes on the clock. Kilworth battled on and pulled one back from Ronan Hyland on 20min. Kilworth took the lead on the 24min when Luke smashed it beyond the Inch net minder. Into the 2nd half with 55 minutes of football played, Inch drew level, 2 - 2, and would have been a fair result. 58mins, free to Kilworth 20 yards out, Harry stepped up with a fine shot, saved

by the goalkeeper but unfortunately he spilled the ball and Peter pounced to take advantage and chipped it over the keeper to take all 3 points. Well done to players and parents. It was an early start this morning!
