WW/EC JUNIOR SOCCER LEAGUE

-

The second half commenced with City attacking and Barry Coffey had two great chances to increase the lead but wasted both chances. Doherty hit the post for Wexford as they battled for the goal that would give them a share of the points, but the City defence held firm and Colin Healy was happy to make the trip home with all three points and leadership of the division. The view from the Wexford side is they deserved at least a draw having played so well for the 90 mins, but unfortunately, were unable to put the ball in the net. Speaking to a Cork City supporter after the game we were told, ‘played badly but won’. The three points are all that matters.

Cork City will be the idle team this week in the 1st Division and this gives Galway and Waterford the opportunity to cut the arrears at the top of the table. If Galway win at home to Wexford they will join Cork City at the summit and a Waterford win away to Cobh Ramblers will the Blues within five points of the top two.

Cork City defeated Midleton from the Munster Senior League 3-0 at Turners Cross on Monday 28th March in the quarter final of the Munster Senior Cup and will play Treaty Utd in the semi-final at the Markets Field on a date to be announced.

Cobh Ramblers lost away on Friday last to Galway Utd at Eamonn Deacy Park by the only goal of the game scored with 23mns remaining. The Ramblers played very well and while their keeper O’Donoghue had to be alert in the opening half, the defence was resilient and did not give John Caulfield’s team too many chances. There was no score at half-time and the second half continued as the first half with the Ramblers thwarting the home attack until the 67th minute when Galway scored following a corner.

Try as they might, Cobh could not get the goal that would give them a share of the points and the Ramblers remain second last in the league table.

This Friday night, Cobh Ramblers have Waterford as visitors to St. Colman’s park and a large crowd should be present for this local derby. This is a game either team cannot afford to lose, especially Waterford if they want to make the play-offs at the end of the season. For Cobh, a win will lift them out of the bottom two.
