THRILLER IN CAHIR

-

SUBWAY INTER LEAGUE U12 South Tipperary 2 WWEC 2 (Penalties 4-5)

These young players of both leagues served up a real thriller in Cahir Park on Sunday morning last. With the sun beaming down on a fine crowd the players added to the enjoyment.

The WWEC boys got off to a flying start with a goal when striker Oisin Conlon scored after 15 minutes. Keeper Cummins denied the home side of an equaliser in the 27th minute with a terrific save. Conlon was in again in the 30th minute but his fine effort just went wide. Conlon’s goal separated the sides at the break.

The second half began at a frantic pace. Lacey had a fine effort in the 33rd minute that the keeper could only parry out but Conlon shot the rebound to the net. So 2-0 to our boys. However, South Tipp were back in the game a minute later when they pulled a goal back. It was now end to end with both going close. However, the home side pulled a second goal back after 51 minutes to make for a hectic final 10 minutes. Alien beat two defenders as he bore down on goal but somehow the keeper got down and pushed it out for a corner which was cleared.

At the final whistle both sets of players were tired after a terrific game. A penalty shootout followed with our league getting the winner in a sudden death shootout. Well done to managers, coaches and of course the boys themselves. A big thanks to the parents also for getting the boys there in plenty of time.

WWEC squad all played: Ben Cummins, Lynn Mulanphy, Paul Hegarty, Barra Alien, Eoin Brennan, Dominic Vaitkunas, Seamus Twomey, Oisin Conlon, Stephan Lacey, Liam Lynch, Oscar Power, Luke Brown, Oscar Power.

SUBWAY U13 INTERLEAGUE Waterford 4 WWEC 0

The first half here saw our boys put in a terrific performance and went in at the break on level terms at 0-0.

Our boys tired in the second half and Waterford got on top and ran out winners. It was not to be our day here as many of the squad were absent due to Covid-19 including our two keepers. We thank Tony Kenneally for stepping in at the last minute. Tony turned in a powerful performance and could not be faulted for any of the goals.

UKRAINE APPEAL

The schoolboy/girl league would like to appeal to all of our players, both boys and girls to try their lockers, sheds and bags for any pairs of football boots or indeed clean jerseys and togs. If so, get in touch with Liam Fraser or hand them in to any club officer. Thank you.
