A very successful climb with Charlie took place on Saturday 2nd April at 11 o clock up in the Galtee’s lead by Margaret Fahey and Robbie Martin. Delighted to say we had men women and children on our walk and of course their family pets. The walk started off in glorious sunshine as the group headed up the mountain but unfortunately the enthusiastic walkers got caught in a heavy shower despite this all said they enjoyed the walk. Eoin O Donoghue of Tipp Mid-West Radio joined us on the walk and was particularly struck by the “community spirit” and “inclusiveness” of the group. Chairman Pat Reidy welcomed all to the walk introduced the leaders and wished everyone enjoyment on the walk and thanked them for contributing and being part of a wonderful day for our community, Charlie Bird and the two fantastic charities we were supporting. He invited all back to the hall in Ballylooby where refreshments would be provided after the walk.
The refreshments were most welcome after the shower and all were delighted to partake. People were very generous and while the final amount is not known yet both charities will benefit significantly from our efforts. We are still getting donations and we will let you know the final figure raised. LITTER PICKING
Litter picking takes place every Tuesday morning and anyone available to give a hand please contact Pat Reidy. This is a necessary activity and it ensures that our community is clean and tidy. We would ask all to please Keep Ballylooby Tidy bring your rubbish home. LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS

KILBEHENNY Contact Mary O’Brien on 087-2422660 or email maryobrien101@gmail.com CLIMB WITH CHARLIE
Congratulations to everybody who climbed anywhere and everywhere in the country, Charlie Bird and Co for climbing Croagh Patrick and, indeed, our own climb up Galtymore. Thank you to Carmel and John O’Gorman, Mitchelstown for the initiative and to Moss Fitzgerald and his team who put the whole event together with Carmel and John.
A huge thank you to everybody who came along and donated money, food etc., Also the three people who registered all 95 climbers before their ascent up Galtymore. When the climbers returned to the hall, they were greeted with lovely hot tea/coffee, sandwiches, cakes etc., all lovingly prepared and served up by members of the hall committee and beyond - thank you for your time. Volunteerism at its best in Kilbehenny.
Best wishes to Ger and Jackie Spillane and their family who are the beneficiaries of the Galtymore climb. Quite a substantial sum of money was raised and still counting.
On a sad note, the day was marred by the sad and sudden death of Cora O’Grady from Mitchelstown who had almost reached the summit before she fell ill and, sadly, passed away. Heartfelt sympathy to her two children and her siblings. May her gentle soul rest in peace.
To think that someone would put themselves out there to do good for another person and this to be the outcome, a sure sign that God’s ways are not our ways. Thank you to the ambulance personnel, the SEMRA crew and the Gardai and anyone else involved in bringing Cora’s body down from the mountain. May Cora have the best bed in Heaven and give peace to her two beautiful children in the months and years ahead. LATE KIT MOLAN
Apologies from this writer for inadvertently mentioning in last week’s notes that Kit was laid to rest in Kilbehenny cemetery. I wish to correct that statement - Kit was laid to rest in Mitchelstown cemetery. May she rest in peace. LADIES FOOTBALL U14

KILLAVULLEN FAIRIES
Some of the beautiful fairy doors and their accessories have faded over winter and the recent flooding. It might be a nice idea to go for a walk along the trail and see if your one needs a spring overhaul. New fairies would also be welcomed if they wished to take up residence along the walkway. A nice little spring project for young and old alike!

‘MEANT TO’
How many times has it happened that you meant to do something but put it on the long finger and then you realise it’s too late. Sitting in my car, killing half an hour during the week while ‘the boss’ was being pampered, I was scrolling through the contacts in my phone, tidying some things up as it were, when I was hit by the amount of people in my contact list who are no longer with us. It really came as a shock to me - and among those were people I had menat to keep more in touch with - ‘meaning to’, but of course now it’s too late. In one way, we have little excuse for not doing so as keeping in touch has never been easier. We don’t necessarily have to sit down and write a letter any more even though for some, it is still the preferable way to communicate, particulary for the older cohort. The art of letter writing is a lost art. Much more can be expressed when we do take the trouble to write rather than text. Personally speaking, I will write much more in an email that I will in a text message and I assume it is the same for most of us. When it comes to ‘keeping in touch’, perhaps then we should adhere to the old adage ‘never put off til tomorrow what you can do today’!
