Mitchelstown LGFA start training for women aged 25+

- MARIAN ROCHE

This Friday the St. Fanahan’s Camogie & Mitchelstown Ladies Football Club are running their first training session for a new team under the Gaelic4Mothers&Others initiative.

At 7pm in O’Connell Park on the Dublin Road on Friday, women aged 25 and over are invited to train and play football in a non-competitive environment, with the aim of taking part in matches and blitzes at a provincial and national level.

The LGFA launched the initiative as ‘an innovative way’ to introduce mothers and other women to playing Ladies Gaelic Football.

Mothers often drop their kids to training and call back to collect them, but the Ladies Gaelic Football Association wants to change that through this fun, non-competitive and social environment.

The LGFA’s own website features the ‘Gaelic4Mothers&Others’ team from Bride Rovers in Bartlemy/ Rathcormac.

The initiative has taken off in all 32 counties, with success stories popping up all over the country.
