Aldi has a positive impact on Cork’s economy

Aldi Ireland announced details on Tuesday of its continued significan­t contributi­on to Cork’s economy and the impact of its charity partnershi­ps across the county.

Last year, Aldi sourced €62 million of locally produced food and drink from Cork based suppliers. Partnering with 31 Cork producers, including longterm relationsh­ips with Irish Yoghurts and Boulta Agri, last year Aldi began working with four new Cork suppliers for the first time, including Alpha Maze and Dosco Unlimited Co.

Aldi’s stores support multiple charities across Cork at a local level, as well as having donated over 289,000 meals through FoodCloud to local charities. Each store is also part of Aldi’s Community Grants network and the multi-national supports local communitie­s through its tree planting initiative, with a commitment to planting 1M native Irish woodland trees across Ireland by 2025 – over 147,000 trees have been planted in County Cork to date.

Operating 24 stores in Cork and a regional distributi­on centre, Aldi employs over 1000 full time staff, spending almost €30M on wages annually.
