Castletown’ man depicts Mother Teresa

- KATIE GLAVIN

Many traditional homes across the country feature some form of religious imagery, typically, the Sacred Heart, however one man in Castletownroche has a different religious image which takes pride of place, one he has drawn himself.

Known for his sketches, as well featured in The Avondhu, Michael Roche shared his depiction of Mother Teresa in her classic blue-rimmed white cotton sari. Inspiration struck for Michael after seeing the saint on the cover of an Ireland’s Own magazine.

“A couple of years ago I was watching the Late Late Show and Ryan Tubridy was reeling back the years. A long time ago, Gay Byrne was interviewing Mother Teresa. It was not until 2019 I got an Ireland’s Own and Mother Teresa was on the cover of it and I decided to sketch her,” Michael said.
