Newly-hatched visitors at Ballygiblin NS
The pupils in Ballygiblin NS added to their repertoire of skills recently, with a time learning all about baby chicks. With 19 eggs coming to the school, the pupils learned all about the three-week incubation period of the birds, and recently had the wonderful excitement of 16 chicks hatching, writes MarianRoche.
The experience came courtesy of third class’s Amelia Luddy’s dad, Jeffrey and grandad Gerard. The chicks, a variety of Barnevelders, Rhode Island Reds and Bantams, stayed with the school until Friday last week and the pupils learned how to care for their newly hatched chicks.
Every pupil in the school had a chance to visit the new arrivals under their infrared lamp, and the chicks have now been adopted by Amelia, and Conor Mullins. The school noted how much fun they had.
“We are so grateful for having had such a lovely opportunity to incubate and hatch our own chicks! It was so much fun!” *
