Riordan’s SuperValu presents cheque to Fermoy Community Hospital
Fermoy Community Hospital was presented with a cheque last week by Riordan’s SuperValu, Fermoy.
According to Michael Riordan of Riordan’s SuperValu, the donation is an example of their ongoing support of local businesses and a contribution that is made annually to Fermoy Community Hospital and Cope Foundation.
“Every year we like to do something for the local hospital and for Cope and it’s something we think is a great thing for the local community. As a local business we like to contribute to that in every way we can,” Michael said.
Fermoy Community Hospital Fundraising committee thanked Riordan’s SuperValu and acknowledged the regular support offered by them through the years.
Speaking with The
Avondhu, Tadhg O’Donovan of the fundraising committee noted the importance of shopping locally and the ways in which doing so supports the wider community.
“This emphasises the importance of people shopping locally and supporting their community by supporting the likes of Riordan’s SuperValu in Fermoy, you’re actually supporting your community in ways that you might not realise and this becomes quite evident on an occasion like today,” he said.
REQUISITION FUND
According to Mr O’Donovan, the monies donated will be lodged to a requisition fund for the Fermoy Community Hospital.
“We have a fund in place whereby requisitions are made on a reasonably regular basis by the management of the hospital and it’s to meet those requisitions, for example, a specialised hospital bed that wouldn’t come from the Health Board,” Mr O’Donovan said.
He went on to note that the requisition fund is used as needed to ensure that Fermoy Community Hospital is well stocked and equipped for residents and staff.
