Commitment of English angler recognised
Pestilence, pandemics and paramilitaries have failed to prevent English angler Brian Tatler, from visiting Fermoy every year for the last 50 years. Brian’s many friends in the town felt his unbroken service should
be recognised - as a result, they organised a party in his honour last Friday night week.
Speaking at the function in The Long Bar, event co-ordinator, Cllr Noel McCarthy, said it was an achievement that shouldn’t go unmarked.
“It’s a remarkable feat, it shows great loyalty to the town and is evidence of what Fermoy still has to offer visitors, especially those with an interest in angling,” Noel said.
Tributes were also paid by councillors Deirdre O’Brien, Frank Roche, William O’Leary and Frank O’Flynn. Cllr O’Brien, in her capacity as chairperson of the Fermoy
Municipal District, presented Brian with a pewter hip flask.
Responding, the former police officer, said Fermoy had a special place in his heart.
“I’ve been coming to Fermoy a long time and I really love the place. I’ve had some great days on the banks of the Blackwater and even better nights in the various bars around the town. I’ve found the people exceptionally kind and welcoming,” Brian told TheAvond
