Ballyenihan junction works to proceed ‘without delay’
Works to the Ballyenihan junction on the N73 are to proceed ‘without delay’ according to Cork County Council officials.
At this week’s meeting of the Fermoy Municipal District, councillors were informed that funding had been confirmed for resurfacing works at the N73 Ballyenihan junction in Kildorrery.
This follows a motion raised by local councillor Deirdre O’Brien at a previous meeting, where numerous incidents in which motorists had skidded on the road surface were outlined.
Senior Engineer with Cork County Council, Brendan O’Gorman confirmed that funding had been secured for resurfacing, while separate funding had also been secured to remove trees on the northern side of the road as part of the project.
Cllr O’Brien also queried traffic calming measures in the area which had previously been discussed, which Mr O’Gorman said may be ‘looked at’ under the current project.
Seeking a timeline for the works, Cllr Frank Roche impressed urgency on the matter, claiming the junction is ‘extremely dangerous’.
“It’s out to tender at the moment. There will be no delay. As soon as tenders are assessed, a contractor awarded and money put in place by the TII, it will proceed without further delay,” Mr O’Gorman added.
SUBSIDENCE TO BE ADDRESSED
A second funding stream has also been confirmed by Cork County Council to continue works on the N72 at the Cork county bounds.
According to Mr O’Gorman, this funding will address a section of road that has subsided in the area and aim to retain the section between Fermoy and Tallow.
