‘Master plan’ to encompass Christ Church junction

- KATIE GLAVIN

It was revealed at this week’s meeting of the Fermoy Municipal District that a ‘master plan’ is underway for part of Fermoy, encompassing the Christ Church junction (where the Mallow road connects to the town), the bridge and the quays.

Speaking on the poor condition of the N72 and Patrick Street in Fermoy, local councillor Frank O’Flynn had sought for a portion of the road at Brian Boru Square to be resurfaced, however, senior engineer with Cork County Council, Brendan O’Gorman noted that this would likely be completed as part of the works to the junction.

According to Mr O’Gorman, council architects are currently looking at a ‘master plan’ for this area, stretching from the junction to the quays.

Last year, funding to the tune of €300,000 was allocated to works at the Christ Church junction where the N72 meets the R639.
