Conna welcomes 2022 Fermoy MD Amenity allocations
Locals in Conna are ‘delighted’ to receive allocations under the Fermoy MD Amenity allocations.
Speaking with The Avondhu, Pat Lee, chairman of the Conna Community Council Finance and Fundraising Committee, said that the grants are ‘a great boost’ for the community.
“It’s a great boost for the community as it’s a big set-up here in Conna. There’s a lot of activity. We have 14 sub-committees and 45 members of the community council.
“We’re trying to get the show going and every bit of a grant we get is a great help,” Mr Lee said.
Under this year’s funding, Conna Community Councill Hall received one of the largest allocations, a sum of €4,500 to resurface the driveway.
They also received an allocation of €900 to provide recycling and refuse stations throughout the local sports complex.
Mr Lee noted the importance of such grants, particularly following the Covid-19 pandemic and associated lockdowns when bills continued to pile up, whereas fundraising was at an all-time low across the country.
“We have quite a hefty bill every year and we were closed down during the pandemic with no income,” Mr Lee added.
While the largest sums allocated under the Fermoy MD Amenity grants were reported in TheAvondhu’s March 17 issue, several other groups were also allocated funding.
Mitchelstown Ballygiblin Juvenile GAA Club saw a sum of €1,350 allocated towards the purchase of sporting equipment for underage Gaelic games, while St Fanahan’s Camogie and Ladies Football Club received the same sum for purchasing playing and training equipment.
The same sum was also allocated to Mitchelstown Community Council for the lawnmower and hedge trimmer and to Glenville - an Préacháin Cuideachta Faoi Theorainn Ráthaíochta, towards the upgrade of facilities in the squash and handball hall.

Rathcormac Community Council also received that figure for the purchase of a roller garage door and the installation of five water heaters, as did Art for the Heart - Doneraile Samhain Festival for a fun, learning, cultural and interactive event.
Funding to the tune of €900 went to Cloyne Diocesan Youth Services in Mitchelstown towards the creation of a youth-friendly modern filmmaking room. Coolagown Development Group also received €900 for enhancing the wildlife and heritage experience for walkers on their community walk.
The same amount was allocated to Mitchelstown Heritage Society for a phased cleaning, storing, and digitising of the Mike O’Grady Photo Collection, and to Rathcormac Scout Group to purchase equipment.

Only one group received a sum of €630 – the Castlehyde Restoration 2022 Group, which will see funding put towards the restoration of the graveyard.
Sums of €450 were allocated to Fermoy Catholic Men and Women’s Society for painting and the purchase of equipment for the snooker club, and to Fermoy Concert Band and Fermoy International Garden so that they may also purchase equipment.
