Presentation students hone creativity with artist Coireall Kent
Another year and another opportunity for the students of Presentation Secondary School, Mitchelstown to develop their artistic skills through the ‘Creative Engagement Project’.
The Project is an arts- in- education programme, which involves an artist(s) coming into the school to impart their skills, knowledge and enthusiasm to the students, with mutual benefits to both artist and school.
What better way to engage in this project than welcoming back one of their own, former student Coireall Kent. Coireall is currently studying Animation and Motion Design in Limerick School of Art and Design, truly an artist that we will be hearing a lot about in the future. In January of this year, Coireall facilitated an Illustration workshop to a group of Transition Year students. This was a oneweek workshop with some very impressive results.
Students learned how to design and create a 2D poster and the importance of composition. They also learned about character development, and experimented with mediums such as collage and Indian inks. Coireall also worked with a smaller group of TY Art students to update the school’s CEIST posters, resulting in five A2-sized bright and brilliant posters that reflected the CEIST values in a modern and expressive way.
The TY students recently unveiled their artistic creations which are now proudly displayed in the main stairwell of the school. Programmes like ‘ Creative Engagement’ provide students with the opportunity to develop their new skills, ambition, commitment, motivation, confidence, and ultimately, their creativity.
