1916 RISING IN CLOGHEEN
The Easter Sunday commeration started with a beautiful rendition of the very poignant song Grace, sang by Seamus Hennessy, Ballyporeen. This was followed by Tom Hennessy giving a very interesting and in-depth history of one of the signatories of the proclamation, Tomas Clarke whose mother Mary Palmer lived in Clogheen. PJ English gave an account of the lead up to the Easter rising and the cruel and inhumane treatment the people of Ireland had to endure. He mentioned the similarities of the 1916 Rising and what is happening in Ukraine today. The proclamation was read by John Hynes Jnr and a number of wreaths were laid at the site. Seamus Hennessy sang the national anthem and the events concluded.
