Delays at Crann Ard development ‘so disappointing’
The social housing development at Crann Ard, Fermoy has been subject to yet further delays and progress has been exceptionally slow over the last number of years due to a variety of issues.
At the meeting of the Northern Committee of Cork County Council on Tuesday, Cllr Noel McCarthy expressed his disappointment on learning that development may not be restarted until the end of the year.
“It’s very disheartening,” said Cllr McCarthy. “What is the delay? It’s frustrating for me as a councillor and I’m sure it’s frustrating for my colleagues and it’s definitely frustrating for people that are on the (waiting) list,” he explained.
Cllr McCarthy complimented the council for the work they have done on the project to date to get it this far and he said he was aware that the council are doing all they can.
HOPEFUL
Maurice Manning, Director fo Services for Cork County Council, assured Cllr McCarthy and all those present at the meeting that the council are ‘equally frustrated’ with the situation and are doing everything they can to get works restarted.
‘The issue is not of the council’s making but we are doing whatever we can,’ explained Mr Manning.
He also clarified that they are hoping that works will be restarting on-site ‘as quickly as possible and hopefully that will be in the next month or two.’
“We are as anxious as anybody to have it back on-site”, he concluded.
