Goals prove vital as Courcey Rovers take Co SHL points

Courcey Rovers 4-14 Kilworth 0–17

Two goals in each half proved decisive as Courcey Rovers took the points in their Red FM Div 2 HL Group A game at Kilworth on Saturday evening. Sean Twomey opened the scoring in the first minute. Eoin Carey replied for Kilworth following a 3 man attack.

Noel McNamara with a free edged Kilworth ahead. Good play by Stephen Nyhan to Brendan Ryan led to a good point by Ronan Nyhan. Tadhg O’Sullivan edged the South East side ahead. In the 15th minute Noel McNamara with a free had the sides level 0-3 each.

Two minutes later Sean Twomey soloed through and goaled. Leo Coffey and Eoin Carey replied with Kilworth points as they drew level 1-3 to 0-6. D J Twomey had the winners second goal. Both sides exchanged points. In injury time Stephen Nyhan with a long range free gave Courcey Rovers an interval lead 2-7 to 0-8.

Brian Sheehan pointed on the restart with Luke Carey pointing after a 3 man attack 2-7 to 0-10. The winners held a 3 point lead 2- 9 to 0-12 before John McCarthy soloed through and goaled 3-9 to 0-12. Kilworth tried very hard for a goal but the winners full backline and keeper Stephen Nyhan were very solid. Noel McNamara was Kilworth’s main scorer. By the 47th minute Courcey’s led 3- 11 to 0-14. Sean Twomey had his second goal. Both sides exchanged late points but it was Courcey Rovers who held out for a 9 point victory.
