GOALS THE DIFFERENCE

-

Kilworth 0-17 Courcey Rovers 4-14

Goals at crucial stages with two in each half from the Ballinspittle and Ballinadee based side proved the main difference between the teams in this Red FM Division 2 Hurling League (Group A) Round 3 game played in Kilworth on Easter Saturday evening.

Playing with a strong wind at our backs in the first half, the opening quarter was a tight affair with the sides level 0-3 each after 15 first half minutes. Courcey’s landed their first goal in the 17th minute to lead 1-3 to 0-3. Kilworth responded well with three well taken points to tie up the game 0-6 to 1-3 by the 22nd minute. Just as we were up to the pace of the game Courcey’s netted with a fortuitous goal, going on to finish the half strongly adding another four white flags to our two to lead 0-8 to 2-7 at half time.

Kilworth started the second half well, reducing the arrears to three points 0-12 to 2-9 inside five minutes. As in the first half just as we were getting into a rhythm, Courcey’s halted our gallop with a third goal in the 37th minute to extend their lead to six points. This increased to eight points 0-12 to 3-11 with twenty minutes remaining. Three Kilworth points in succession had the gap back to five points 0-15 to 3-11. However, this was as close as we got with Courcey’s putting the game beyond reach with their fourth green flag in the 49th minute. The men from the Carrigdhoun division went on to out score us 0-3 to 0-2 in the closing stages to record a nine-point win with the final score 0-17 to 4-14.

While a disappointing result, the lads and management don’t have much time to dwell on it as they are in action again tomorrow night in round 4 against Blackrock at the Church Road venue.
