U19 FOOTBALL Glenville 3.14 Midleton 5.06

Glenville U19 footballers got their second league win on the road on Wednesday evening last against Midleton. This was a good game of football with Glenville edging out a good win against a good Midleton side. A lively first half led to a good spread of scores across the team and at halftime Glenville led 2.07 to 3.02. Two great goals coming from Ryan and Brendan with points from Colin (3) Ciaran O Leary (1) Ryan (1) Brendan (1) and Dylan Roche.

The second half started brightly with Brendan kicking over a great point. Colin O’Keeffe and Ciaran O’Leary followed up with some great scores soon after, but Midleton were always a threat and they kept the scoreboard ticking over. Midleton got through for a goal to bring the lead down to the minimum. But Glenville responded again with Colin kicking a sublime point from a long distance out. Ciaran O Leary was moving well and he crashed a great goal to the net. Dylan Roche kicked over two great points to put daylight between the sides again.

But Midleton responded with 2 points and then got through for a good goal. Ciaran O Riordain finished our scoring with a great point after a good run. Midleton had a half chance to grab a goal at the end, but glenvilles defence held firm. This was another good team performance against a good Midleton side. Glenville have now 2 wins from 2. DADS AND LADS

Dads and Lads is a social football and Hurling programme for those keen to enjoy Gaelic games outside the traditional competitive structures of the GAA.

The philosophy of GAA for Dads & Lads is all about participation and the camaraderie that only team sports can offer. The small-sided adapted games allow for incidental contact only (to minimise any risk of injury) so skills are to the fore over physicality. The games are self-governed – no referees.

We recently started a Dads and Lads football and Hurling group in Glenville and it has proved a great success so far, with numbers increasing every night. It’s open to all and no previous experience of playing football is required.
