EAST CORK OIL U15 CUP Brideview Utd 3 Inch Utd 2

This local derby of the Uniteds, played in Leonard Fraser Park on Tuesday evening last, produced a real thriller for the good crowd of fans present on a beautiful sunny evening.

Both of these sides gave 110% in this game as the two teams went flat out for victory which would put them into the next round.

Nugent went close for the homeside in the 8th minute when his shot went across the goal and just wide. The opening goal came in the 12th minute to the homeside. A great free kick from Nugent into the box saw Murphy (Billy) rise above Inch’s defence to head home for the opening goal.

Then the visitors Inch struck twice in as many minutes. The first came in the 14th minute when Manning shot home from close range. An own goal a minute later saw the visitors go in front.

Wall and Nugent both went close for Brideview before the equalizer came in the 26th minute. A free kick outside the box taken by Billy Murphy was a real cracker and ended up in the visitors’ net. It was now 2-2 and all to play for.

Then it was Brideview’s turn to go back in front. Murphy’s ball into the box saw Wall take it down and his low volley went to the net giving McDonnell, the keeper, no chance. The keeper did rescue the visitors with a marvellous save just before the break denying Power. Brideview 3-2 up after a hectic first half.

The second half was only two minutes old when Sheehan shot wide for the homeside. The homeside’s keeper Good made a terrific save from Fitzgerald in the 51st minute. Wall, Nugent and McDonnell went close for Brideview. At the other end Good denied Hogan an equalizer. O’Riordan shot over for Inch in the 65th minute when he looked as if he would put the sides level.

The final attack fell to the homeside and a terrific volley from Aidan Murphy flew just outside the post. Brideview held out and advanced to the next round, a highly entertaining game.
